The online world is becoming more and more diverse with competing startups creating new and upcoming applications for marketers to get their product in front of the perfect demographic. When we once thought having lots of pages on websites was important to be able to track visitors, we are now trying to reduce pages and make it more and more simple and less tedious for the user. We now have to find new ways to track those conversions.
Custom campaign url builders are the best way to track conversions. Google Analytics Support says “By adding campaign parameters to the destination URLs you use in your ad campaigns, you can collect information about the overall efficacy of those campaigns, and also understand where the campaigns are more effective. When a user clicks a referral link, the parameters you add are sent to Analytics, and the related data is available in the Campaigns reports.” You’re able to track who used this url in a specific way. Let’s say you have a specific campaign, advertising on a certain website. Creating a campaign URL will track those specific clicks and show you if your campaign is effective in that given location. You can also do this in print advertising.
There are different campaign builders out there, but the one I like to use the most is Google Analytics Custom Campaign Builder. This tool allows you to create campaign URL’s so it’s trackable in your Google Analytics account. Once you’ve created the very long campaign URL, make it shorter by using Bitly or a similar tool to make it that much easier for the user.
